Gilani Engineering supplies and installs accessibility-focused vehicle accessories, driver protection screens, tailgate lifts and vehicle conversions from our Sydney facility. With more than 18 years of engineering experience, our team of engineers, mechanics and fabricators carries out vehicle modifications in our own workshop, so the engineering, fitting and compliance are controlled directly rather than outsourced.

Our driver protection screens create a barrier between the driver and rear passengers, suited to taxis, rideshare vehicles, private hire and fleet operators. Unlike lightweight clip-in shields, our screens are engineered from compliant polycarbonate and fitted to suit the vehicle, with options for non-drill installation that does not permanently alter the car.

We design and install vehicle modifications for accessible and commercial transport. This includes automatic sliding door kits for vans, passenger transport and tourbus seating conversions, and custom walker carriers for disability transport vans and buses.
For wheelchair access, our side-entry wheelchair accessible vehicle conversion uses a powered cassette lift fitted to suit people movers and vans. Our automatic tailgate lift kits provide powered boot operation through the key fob, an interior button or a foot sensor, with manual operation retained. We ship products Australia-wide, including driver protection screens, tailgate lift kits and accessories, with installation training resources provided where relevant. Engineered conversions and modifications that require fitting are completed at our factory at 99 Cowpasture Road, Wetherill Park NSW 2164, and our showroom is at 14 Smithfield Road, Smithfield NSW 2164. We do not have repairers outside Sydney, so on-site installation work is carried out at our own facility where engineering and fitting are controlled directly. Will a driver protection screen or modification fit my vehicle?
Most modifications are fitted to suit the specific make and model of the vehicle. Driver protection screens are available with custom sizing, and conversions are assessed against the vehicle platform before work begins. Contact our team with your vehicle details to confirm compatibility.
Are your driver protection screens just COVID-style shields?
No. Our screens are engineered from compliant polycarbonate suited to automotive use and fitted as a durable barrier between driver and passengers. They are intended for ongoing driver protection, passenger separation and fleet use, not as temporary hygiene shields.
Can I use NDIS funding for these products?
Many vehicle modifications and accessibility products may be eligible for NDIS funding where they are reasonable and necessary for a participant’s plan. Gilani Engineering is an NDIS-registered provider and can supply quotes and documentation to support your application. Support at Home and DVA (Rehabilitation Appliances Program) funding may also apply to eligible items.
Do modifications require drilling or permanent changes to my car?
It depends on the product. Some driver protection screens are designed for non-drill installation and can be removed without permanent modification. Larger conversions, such as sliding door kits and wheelchair access systems, involve engineered installation. Our team will explain what is involved for your chosen product before any work begins.
Do you deliver outside Sydney?
Yes. We ship products Australia-wide, including driver protection screens, tailgate lift kits and accessories. Engineered installation work is carried out at our Wetherill Park facility in Sydney, as we do not have repairers in other states. Customers outside NSW can order products for delivery and speak with our team about installation options for their location.
How long does a modification take?
Timeframes vary by product. A tailgate lift installation takes roughly a day, while larger conversions such as wheelchair access systems can require several days depending on the vehicle and customisation. Contact us for an accurate timeframe for your job.
Are modifications compliant with Australian standards?
Vehicle modifications are designed and installed to relevant Australian standards and applicable NSW road authority requirements, with engineering certification where required. We retain the documentation needed for compliance and, where relevant, funding applications.
