Frequently Asked Questions:
1- What is a Threshold Ramp?
Threshold ramps are a type of wheelchair ramp designed to provide a smooth, effortless transition between rooms, floorings, or any other sort of small difference in ground height.
2- What are rubber threshold ramps used for?
Rubber ramps offer an economical solution to allow easier wheelchair user access into buildings that have low rise lips or steps. A typical situation would be where sliding doors are fitted and a weather step has to be cleared for access.
3- How much weight can a Portable access ramp support?
On average, Most Portable Access ramps can support 270-360 kgs of weight but This Gilani Engineering's Heavy Duty Access ramp can support 400kgs of weight making it much more heavy duty than the regular access ramp.
4- What is the max height obstacle to overcome?
There is no exact rule or regulation for the maximum height of the obstacle that you can use in conjunction with these ramps. However, it depends if the ramps are being used for a wheelchair/mobility user or if it is just used to load/off load or to transfer equipment in and out of a vehicle.
If it is used for loading/off-loading it can be used at much larger heights but if it is used for a person in an electric wheelchair or a mobility scooter it cannot be too steep for safety.
There is no exact legislation stating the maximum height requirements. However, for removable or portable ramps at home the ramp should not have a gradient exceeding 1:10 for safety so you would avoid putting the ramp too steep.
For Vehicles ramps should not exceed the gradient of 1:8.
Inside homes, permanent ramps should not exceed a gradient of 1:12.
5- Where could I use this Ramp?
This Threshold Ramp could be used at curb-sides, entry ways and doorways. These Threshold Ramps give a very small incline just enough for your electric, manual wheelchair or scooter to get over the door step of most entry.
