Description
Air Hawk 24 Folding Electric Wheelchair 180kg — Heavy Duty Power Chair, $3,490
The Air Hawk 24 folding electric wheelchair is a 180kg-capacity power chair specified, refined and certified over seven years by Gilani Engineering — an Australian engineering company — and distributed exclusively in Australia by us.
At 25.5kg without batteries it is lighter than the 27.3–27.5kg typical of other 180kg folding chairs sold here, it climbs a 10–12° gradient where most of that class are rated to 8°, and it comes with a Bluetooth carer remote that its direct competitors don’t offer at all. At $3,490 it is also priced at or below every comparable 180kg folding chair we can find on the Australian market.

Before you buy any 180kg wheelchair — ask for the testing report.
A 180kg capacity rating is easy to print on a specification sheet. A test report is not. Search the 180kg folding electric wheelchair category in Australia and you’ll find plenty of listings quoting the number — and very few that publish any evidence behind it.
Ask every seller you’re considering three questions:
- What load was it tested at? It should be above the rated capacity, not equal to it.
- What type of test was it? Static load, fatigue, impact and crash tests measure completely different things.
- Can I see the document? Not a summary or a claim on a web page — the report itself.
Ours: the Air Hawk 24 was static load tested and passed at 200kg, 20kg above its rated capacity. We’ll send you that documentation on request, before you spend a cent. Request the testing report
This page is the standard Air Hawk 24 — 450mm internal seat width, fixed backrest, for everyday folding and transport. There are two other Air Hawk models: a bariatric version in 530mm, 560mm and 600mm seat widths, and a crash-tested version for users who stay seated in the chair while the vehicle is moving. Compare all three below.
Many folding electric wheelchairs sold in Australia are rated at or below 150kg. The Air Hawk 24 — also searched as the airhawk wheelchair, air hawk electric wheelchair, 180kg folding electric wheelchair, heavy duty folding electric wheelchair, fold up electric wheelchair, folding motorised wheelchair, folding power wheelchair or a bariatric electric wheelchair in folding form — supports up to 180kg without moving to an oversized rigid frame.
It suits adults, seniors and carers who need a portable electric wheelchair one person can load into a car boot, and users in the 150kg–175kg range — anyone searching for an electric wheelchair with 150kg capacity or higher, or an electric wheelchair for a heavier person — who want a tested margin above their own body weight.

How the Air Hawk 24 Compares to Other 180kg Folding Electric Wheelchairs
Most folding power chairs in the 180kg class are built to a similar formula: dual 250W motors, solid tyres, lithium batteries, around 6km/h. The differences that actually change daily use are weight, gradient, carer control and what evidence sits behind the capacity number.

Comparison figures are drawn from publicly published Australian retailer specifications for comparable 180kg folding electric wheelchairs, current at the time of writing. Specifications change — check current figures with any supplier before deciding.
A straight word on range figures. Every chair in this class quotes its range on a flat surface with a light test load — ours included. In mixed real-world conditions, with gradients, a heavier user and cold weather, expect meaningfully less than the headline number. That applies to any chair advertising 25km, not just this one. Removable batteries are the practical answer: carry a charged spare rather than carrying extra battery weight on the frame all day. Tell us your typical day and we’ll give you a realistic figure for how you’ll actually use it.
10–12° Gradient — The Spec That Matters Most and Gets Mentioned Least
Weight capacity gets all the attention. Gradient is what decides whether the chair is usable where you live.
The Air Hawk 24 is rated to a 10–12° maximum slope. Many comparable 180kg folding chairs are rated to 8°. That gap shows up in real places: steep kerb ramps, sloped driveways, carpark ramps, the approach to a front door. A chair that stalls or slows badly on your own driveway is a chair you stop using.
Combined with dual 250W brushless motors and solid puncture-free tyres, it handles footpaths, ramps, shopping centres and driveways without the punctures or pressure checks pneumatic tyres bring.
Air Hawk 24 Seat Width — 450mm Internal Between Armrests
The measurement that matters is the internal width between the armrests — the space you actually sit in. The standard Air Hawk 24 has a 450mm internal width (approximately 18 inches), the common adult sizing.
| Model | Internal width | Approx. imperial | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Hawk 24 (this page) | 450mm | ~18″ | Standard adult sizing, full 180kg capacity |
| Air Hawk 24 Bariatric | 530mm | ~21″ | Additional hip and thigh room |
| Air Hawk 24 Bariatric | 560mm | ~22″ | Wider seating requirement |
| Air Hawk 24 Bariatric | 600mm | ~23.5″ | Widest available configuration |
How to measure: sit on a firm chair, measure across the widest point of your hips or thighs, then add 25–50mm for clothing and comfort. If you measure around 400mm, the 450mm standard is right. If you measure wider than 480mm, you need one of the bariatric wheelchair widths — 530mm, 560mm or 600mm.
At 450mm internal, the Air Hawk 24 is narrower than the 500mm common on other 180kg folding chairs. That is an advantage in older Australian homes, narrow hallways and bathroom doorways, and a consideration if you need more hip room — in which case the Air Hawk 24 Bariatric is the right chair, not a wider standard one.
A standard internal doorway in Australia is commonly 820mm, and many older homes and bathrooms are narrower. Overall chair width sits above the internal seat width once wheels and armrests are counted, so measure your narrowest doorway, your bathroom entry and your car boot opening before ordering. Our guide to standard and bariatric wheelchair widths explains how to measure properly, including hand clearance and turning space.
Not sure which width you need? Send us your measurements and we’ll confirm the right configuration and overall dimensions before you order.
Colour Options — Six to Choose From
A wheelchair is something you use every day and are seen in every day. It should look like a choice, not an issue of stock. The Air Hawk 24 is available in six colours, which is unusual in the 180kg class — most heavy duty folding chairs on the Australian market are offered in one or two, typically black or black and yellow.
| Colour | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Black | The default choice — discreet and shows marks least |
| Silver | Neutral and light-looking; a good match for clinical or shared settings |
| Blue | Popular with everyday users who want visibility without standing out |
| Red | High visibility on footpaths and in carparks |
| Pink | Frequently requested and rarely stocked by other suppliers |
| Yellow | Highest visibility of the range — useful for road crossings and low light |
Every colour carries the same 180kg capacity, the same 450mm standard seat width and the same specification — colour is a finish choice, not a different chair. The Air Hawk 24 Bariatric and the Falcon24 also come in a choice of colours, though the available range differs by model.
Colour availability changes with stock. Select your colour using the options above the add-to-cart button, or check current availability before ordering.
Static Load Tested and Passed at 200kg
Search for a 180kg electric wheelchair in Australia and you’ll find plenty of listings making the same claim. Far fewer will tell you what testing sits behind the number.
The Air Hawk 24 has been static load tested and passed at 200kg. A static load test applies and holds the load without motion or impact — it demonstrates that the frame, seat and folding mechanism take the weight. The 180kg everyday rating sits below that tested figure, which is where the margin comes from.
- Static load test: 200kg — passed
- Recommended user weight: 180kg for everyday use
- Also suitable for users 150kg–175kg — with a tested margin above the rated capacity
- Included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods — ARTG ID 372653
- Note: this is a static load test, not a dynamic or crash test. For occupied vehicle transport, see the crash-tested model below
Why we keep raising this. Weight capacity is the one specification on a heavy duty wheelchair where being wrong has consequences. A frame that flexes, a folding latch that fatigues or a seat mount that fails under load is not a warranty inconvenience — it’s a fall. Yet it’s also the specification least often supported by evidence in this category, because a number on a page costs nothing to publish.
We would rather you asked hard questions of every supplier, including us. If a seller can’t tell you what load their chair was tested at, what kind of test it was, and show you the document, treat the capacity figure as a marketing claim rather than a measurement.
We can provide the Air Hawk 24 static load test documentation on request, before purchase, with no obligation. Request the testing report
What to Ask Before You Buy Any 180kg Electric Wheelchair
Five questions that separate a specification sheet from a chair that will still be working in three years. Ask them of us and of anyone else you’re considering.
- “What testing supports the weight capacity, and what type of test was it?” A printed number is not evidence. Ask whether it’s a static load test, a fatigue test, or nothing at all.
- “Is it included in the ARTG?” Inclusion in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods means the device is registered for supply in Australia as a medical device.
- “What’s the maximum gradient?” Then measure the steepest slope you use daily. 8° and 12° are very different chairs on the same driveway.
- “Do you hold spare parts in Australia?” Motors, controllers, joysticks and batteries. If they’re ordered from overseas on demand, a fault means weeks without a chair.
- “Can I try it in my own home first?” Showroom floors are flat and wide. Your hallway isn’t.
Seven Years of Engineering Refinement
Many 180kg folding wheelchairs sold here are generic imports, rebadged and resold without testing evidence behind the capacity claim. The Air Hawk 24 has been specified, refined and certified over seven years by Gilani Engineering — a working Australian engineering company that designs, certifies and services mobility equipment and wheelchair accessible vehicle modifications, and the exclusive Australian distributor for this chair. The reinforced folding frame, battery placement and safety systems reflect that process rather than an off-the-shelf specification.
This matters because a heavy duty power chair carries a person’s full weight, every day, often on slopes and uneven ground. The difference between a tested chair and an untested import is the difference between a tested margin and a printed number.
A Bariatric-Capacity Power Chair That Still Folds
Most chairs marketed as a bariatric electric wheelchair or bariatric power wheelchair use a wide, rigid frame that won’t fold and won’t fit through a standard doorway. The Air Hawk 24 covers bariatric capacity in a folding format — useful if you need the strength of a heavy duty chair but still have to get through your own home and into a vehicle.
- 180kg weight capacity, static load tested and passed at 200kg
- Folds for car boot transport — no rigid bariatric frame to store
- Suitable for users from 150kg through to the full 180kg rated capacity
- 450mm internal width on this standard model; the Air Hawk 24 Bariatric offers 530mm, 560mm and 600mm
If you need capacity beyond 180kg — a 200kg, 250kg or 300kg bariatric wheelchair — see our bariatric wheelchair range or talk to our team about higher-capacity options.
$3,490 — Priced Below Comparable 180kg Folding Chairs
At $3,490, the Air Hawk 24 sits at or below every comparable 180kg folding electric wheelchair we can find advertised in Australia, where the same class commonly runs $3,495 to $4,850. That price includes free delivery on online purchases, a warranty, and locally stocked genuine parts.
No price-beat gimmick, no inflated “was” price to discount from. The number is the number.
Try Before You Buy: Home Visits & Hire
A 180kg electric wheelchair is a significant decision, and a showroom floor tells you very little about how a chair performs in your actual home. As an Australian engineering company with local support, we can offer options most importers can’t:
- Home visits — our team can come to you to assess suitability, doorways, gradients, transport and the right configuration
- Hire prior to purchase — try the chair in your own environment before deciding to buy
Contact our team to arrange a home visit or hire — availability varies by location, so get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s possible in your area.
Which Air Hawk Is Right For You?
All Air Hawk models share the same 180kg capacity, folding frame and Bluetooth carer remote option. What separates them is seat width, backrest and whether the chair is rated for occupied vehicle transport.
| Model | Internal seat width | Backrest | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Hawk 24 — Standard (this page) | 450mm | Fixed | Everyday folding use, car boot transport, travelling by air, train or public transport |
| Air Hawk 24 — Bariatric | 530mm / 560mm / 600mm | Fixed | You need more hip and thigh room than the 450mm standard, with the same 180kg capacity and folding design |
| Air Hawk — Crash-Tested | See product page | Fixed | The user stays seated in the chair while the vehicle is moving — wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) compliance |
| Falcon24 | See product page | Adjustable recline | You need reclining positioning for comfort or pressure relief — also available in a bariatric width version |
Not sure which one? The quickest way to decide is your hip measurement and whether you travel seated in the chair. Send us both and we’ll tell you which model fits.
This page’s chair — the standard Air Hawk 24 — is for everyday folding and transport, not occupied vehicle transport.

Simple, Reliable 2-Second Fold
The Air Hawk 24 uses a simple manual fold mechanism — no motors or electronics in the fold to maintain. Remove the seat cushion, unlock the rear latch, fold the footrests and bring the frame together, and it’s ready for vehicle transport in a couple of seconds. Fewer parts that can fail over time, which is what makes it practical as a foldable electric wheelchair for daily use, and as an electric folding wheelchair that one person can load without help.
At 25.5kg without batteries, and with the batteries removed separately, the heaviest single lift is lighter than on most chairs in this class — the difference between a carer managing it alone and needing two people.
Built-In Safety Systems
- Intelligent electromagnetic brake — automatically locks the wheels when powered on and stationary, including on slopes
- Over-discharge battery protection — protects the battery and extends its life
- Over-current protection — an electronic fuse safeguards the motors
- 5-light LED diagnostic display — real-time battery level and diagnostic feedback
- 360° proportional joystick control — smooth directional control with automatic braking when released
Bluetooth Remote Control — Carer Assisted Operation
An optional Bluetooth remote lets a carer assist with positioning and navigation — useful in tight spaces, during transfers, or for users who need occasional assisted control without switching to a fully dependent power chair. The remote operates independently of the user joystick.
This is genuinely uncommon in the 180kg folding class. Comparable chairs at this capacity generally don’t offer carer remote control at all, which means the alternative is either pushing a powered chair manually or moving up to a full carer-controlled power chair at considerably more cost. Speak with our team for configuration advice
Travelling With the Air Hawk 24 — Air, Train and Public Transport
The Air Hawk 24 uses removable lithium batteries supported by an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) report, which helps meet common airline handling and safety requirements for mobility devices. That makes it a practical lightweight folding electric wheelchair for travelling, and the removable battery design also suits train and public transport where battery handling rules apply.
- MSDS report available for the lithium batteries
- Removable battery design for easier travel preparation
- Common airline-compliant battery configuration
- Optional wheelchair travel bag for handling and storage in transit
Important: Airline approval is always required prior to travel — each airline sets its own lithium battery and mobility device policies, so confirm directly with your airline before you fly. We can provide the MSDS report to support your request.

Warranty, Spare Parts & Long-Term Support
Because we’re the exclusive Australian distributor, we hold genuine spare parts in stock in our own warehouse — motors, controllers, joysticks, batteries and wear parts — so repairs, replacements and servicing are handled locally, without waiting on overseas shipments.
This is the part of ownership most buyers don’t think about until something fails. A chair is only as good as the support behind it in year three.
- Manufacturer warranty included — contact our team for current terms
- Genuine spare parts held in stock locally for fast repairs and replacements
- Replacement Air Hawk wheelchair batteries, joysticks and controllers available separately
- Repairs and servicing carried out at our own Smithfield workshop, not outsourced

- Warranty excludes damage from improper use, exceeding the weight limit, unauthorised modification, or consumable wear (tyres, bearings)
NDIS, Support at Home and Funding
NDIS Funding Assistance Available. Our team can help with the documentation side of a funded purchase — quotes in the format your plan manager or support coordinator needs, specification sheets for your OT’s report, and the ARTG details where they’re required.
We can also supply the static load test documentation, which is often what an OT or plan reviewer wants to see behind a capacity claim for a higher-weight user. Contact our team to discuss funding documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Air Hawk 24 compare to other 180kg folding electric wheelchairs?
It’s lighter (25.5kg without batteries versus 27.3–27.5kg typical), climbs a steeper gradient (10–12° versus 8°), offers a Bluetooth carer remote that comparable chairs in this class generally don’t, is included in the ARTG, and comes with static load test documentation available on request. It matches the class on range at up to 25km on flat surfaces, and it’s narrower at 450mm between the armrests versus 500mm — an advantage in older homes, or a reason to choose a bariatric width if you need more hip room. At $3,490 it sits at or below the $3,495–$4,850 range that class commonly sells for.
How wide is the Air Hawk 24?
450mm internal width between the armrests as standard — approximately 18 inches, the common adult sizing. Turning radius is approximately 85cm. Bariatric configurations are available at 530mm, 560mm and 600mm. Our wheelchair width guide explains how to measure; send us your measurements and we’ll confirm the overall dimensions for the configuration you need.
What is the difference between the Air Hawk models?
Three models share the same 180kg capacity and folding frame. The standard Air Hawk 24 on this page has a 450mm internal seat width. The Air Hawk 24 Bariatric offers 530mm, 560mm and 600mm widths for users needing more hip room. The Crash-Tested Air Hawk is for users who stay seated in the chair during vehicle travel. If you need a reclining backrest instead, see the Falcon24.
What colours does the Air Hawk 24 come in?
Six — Black, Silver, Blue, Red, Pink and Yellow, subject to current stock. Every colour is the same chair mechanically: same 180kg capacity, same 450mm standard seat width, same specification. Most heavy duty folding chairs in this class are offered in only one or two colours, so if colour matters to you it is worth comparing ranges before you buy.
What seat width should I choose?
Measure across the widest point of your hips or thighs while seated on a firm chair, then add 25–50mm for clothing and comfort. Up to about 400mm, the 450mm standard is right. Beyond 480mm, choose a bariatric width — 530mm, 560mm or 600mm. A seat that’s too wide is as much of a problem as one that’s too narrow: it costs you postural support and adds overall width you may not clear a doorway with.
What gradient can it climb?
10–12°, which is steeper than the 8° common in this class. Measure the steepest slope you use daily — a driveway, a kerb ramp, the approach to your front door — before comparing chairs on any other specification.
How far will it go on a charge?
Up to 25km on a flat surface. Real-world range depends on user weight, terrain, gradient and temperature, so expect less than the headline figure on hilly routes or in cold weather — that’s true of every chair in this class, whatever the advertised number. For a typical day of home, shops and appointments it’s comfortably more than enough, and the removable batteries mean you can carry a charged spare for longer outings.
Is the Air Hawk 24 a bariatric wheelchair?
The chair on this page is the standard Air Hawk 24 at 450mm internal width. If you need bariatric seating, the Air Hawk 24 Bariatric is the same 180kg folding chair in 530mm, 560mm and 600mm widths. Either way you keep the folding design, which most bariatric power chairs do not offer. If you need capacity beyond 180kg, contact our team.
Other wheelchairs claim 180kg too — how do I know this one really holds it?
The Air Hawk 24 has been static load tested and passed at 200kg — the frame, seat and folding mechanism held 200kg under an applied static load. We can provide that documentation on request. Ask any seller what testing sits behind their capacity figure, and what type of test it was, before buying a high-capacity electric wheelchair.
What should a 180kg wheelchair testing report actually show?
At minimum: the load applied, the type of test performed, and a pass result. The tested load should sit above the rated capacity, not equal to it — the gap is the margin. Be aware that different tests measure different things: a static load test demonstrates the structure holds an applied weight, a fatigue test simulates repeated use over time, and a crash test measures behaviour in a vehicle impact. A seller quoting “tested” without saying which test is not telling you much. The Air Hawk 24 figure is a static load test, passed at 200kg against a 180kg rating.
What if a seller won’t show me their testing report?
Then you’re buying the number, not the evidence. Many 180kg chairs on the Australian market publish detailed specification sheets — battery, motor, dimensions, tyres — without any testing documentation at all. That’s your answer as to what’s been verified. Ask, and judge by whether a document arrives.
Has the Air Hawk 24 been crash tested?
Not this model. The 200kg figure on this page is a static load test — a strength test, not a crash test. The standard Air Hawk 24 is designed to be folded and stowed for transport, with the user seated in a vehicle seat. We do supply a separate Crash-Tested Air Hawk for users who need to remain seated in the chair while the vehicle is moving.
Can it support 180kg safely?
Yes. It’s rated to 180kg for everyday use and has passed a static load test at 200kg. It also suits users in the 150kg–175kg range wanting a tested margin above their own weight.
Can it be used outdoors?
Yes. Solid front and rear tyres, dual 250W brushless motors and a 10–12° gradient rating suit footpaths, ramps, driveways and shopping centres. Solid tyres mean no punctures and no pressure checks.
Is Gilani Engineering the only place to buy the Air Hawk 24 in Australia?
Yes. Gilani Engineering is the exclusive Australian distributor and authorised reseller, so every purchase includes genuine manufacturer warranty, local support and after-sales servicing.
Do you offer free delivery?
Yes — free delivery on online purchases of the Air Hawk 24, Australia-wide.
Is there a reclining version?
Yes — the Falcon24 is the reclining version, with the same 180kg capacity and folding design plus an adjustable reclining backrest.
Is this a folding or motorised wheelchair?
Both — it’s a motorised (electric) wheelchair with a simple manual fold that takes a couple of seconds, with no motors or electronics in the fold mechanism to maintain.
Is the Air Hawk 24 suitable for travelling by air?
It uses removable lithium batteries supported by an MSDS report, which helps meet common airline and public transport handling requirements. We can provide the MSDS report, but final airline approval must always be confirmed directly with your airline before you fly.
Does it support carer control?
Yes — an optional Bluetooth remote allows carer-assisted positioning and navigation at 180kg capacity. This is uncommon in this class; comparable 180kg folding chairs generally don’t offer it.
Can I try the Air Hawk 24 before buying?
Yes. We can arrange a home visit to assess suitability, and in many cases offer hire prior to purchase so you can try the chair in your own environment first. Availability varies by location — contact our team.
What if it needs repairs or spare parts later?
As the exclusive Australian distributor, we hold genuine spare parts in stock locally — motors, controllers, joysticks, batteries and wear parts — so repairs are handled without waiting on overseas shipments. Servicing is carried out at our own Smithfield workshop.
Do you have used or second-hand Air Hawk 24 wheelchairs for sale?
We don’t sell privately used chairs, but we occasionally have ex-demo and floor display models at reduced price — lightly used, full working condition, full manufacturer warranty. Contact us for current availability.
Is it suitable for NDIS participants?
NDIS Funding Assistance Available. Contact our team for quotes, specification sheets and documentation support.
What if I need a wheelchair for occupied vehicle transport?
The Air Hawk 24 is for everyday folding and transport, not occupied vehicle transport. For WAV compliance, view the Crash-Tested Air Hawk instead.

Raji & Maria were very helpful in the purchase of the Air Hawk – Easter Wk 2023. I drove from the Vic Border to get it, knowing I had a delivery offer to save the trip.
Raji fitted extra anti tipper wheels which are solidly made. The online video’s with Maria using it were very helpful towards committing to making the drive to Smithfield with intentions to purchase.
The AIr Hawk is a gem and has given my wife freedom to go to places now and together as a couple to places like local the Botanical Gardens, Water Weir picnic spots, etc, etc. My wife’s first practice run was at a empty local Tafe carpark and the smile my wife had was precious and memorable. Previous Reviews helped us decide on this self funded purchase, l hope theses further comments help others with mobility issues to make a choice. Thanks Gillani Team for assisting people with disabilities.

I have had an Air Hawk for 5 months now. I can walk short distances, but the Air Hawk allows me to travel much further. Moves well over grassy areas, like lawns. It does travel over light-dirt footpaths etc, but the ride is a bit rough. I’d recommend that this be used primarily on even grounds, footpaths, shopping centres etc,. Batteries are easily charged and only takes a couple of hours to recharge from ½ charge.
An important consideration is whether the user will want to use the Air Hawk to sit at a table. Unfortunately the Controller is the same height as tabletops. So getting close to a table/bench for meals is an issue. You could disconnect the Controller, then remove it, but that renders the chair dead, and would then require someone elses assistance to unlock the wheels and push the chair nearer the table. Another issue is that small movements in a confined area are very jerky. Especially when reversing and the non-drive wheels at the front spin around. Positioning the chair on a bus or train wheelchair spot can be a nightmare when by yourself.
Overall, the chair is solid, reasonably maneouverable, comfortable and when new, the batteries only need a full charge once in a while. Galani’s service was quite good. The best thing is that parts are available in Australia, and help is only a phone call away.

Gilani Engineering look after their customer very well. I have had the wheel chair and the boot hoist for 5 years and it has been amazing. I recommend Gilani to everyone.

Fadi does a brilliant job and clearly cares about people , Nora is always gentle and patient. Bought an AirHawk before Christmas 2023 and found it to be exactly as described. It is a great chair, easy manouverable, makes my life easier. It’s comfortable and lightweight. Has given a lot of freedom. Raj and Maria were very helpful in the purchase of the chair. About to fly with it and just waiting to see how that goes with the airline.

I have a Gilani folding electric chair , and had minor issue with it . I took it to the show room to be looked at and after they diagnosed the problem they installed a replacement part on the spot . I was back on the road very quickly with no fuss and a smile

Love the freedom of the Airhawk. The ideal wheelchair for limited mobility around home and shopping. So many people ask me about the versatility and ease of use, I have no problem recommending this particular wheelchair AIRHAWK.
