Lithium Battery Safety Guideline
Lithium batteries are reliable and long-lasting, but they must be handled with care. Please follow the guidelines below to ensure safety and extend battery life.
Safe Handling
- Always check your battery before use. Do not use if cracked, swollen, leaking, or
damaged. - Avoid dropping, crushing, or piercing the battery.
- Keep away from water, fire, and extreme heat.
Never try to disassemble or modify a battery. - Only use batteries and chargers approved by Gilani Engineering or the product
manufacturer.
Safe Charging
- Use only the original or approved charger supplied with your device.
- Charge in a dry, ventilated area тАФ avoid soft surfaces (beds, couches, or carpets).
- Do not leave batteries charging unattended, especially overnight.
- Disconnect the charger when fully charged.
- If the battery becomes hot, smokes, or smells unusual, stop charging immediately and place it on a safe, non-flammable surface.
Safe Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place between 10┬░C and 25┬░C.
- Keep away from direct sunlight, heaters, or freezing conditions.
- Do not leave batteries inside cars. Temperatures can exceed 60┬░C, leading to swelling, leaking, or fire. Always remove batteries from scooters, wheelchairs, or other devices before leaving them in a vehicle.
- For long-term storage (over 3 months), keep batteries at around 50% charge.
- Avoid contact with metal objects (keys, coins, tools) that may cause short-circuits.
- Use original packaging or a protective case to prevent physical damage.
- Keep in a dry environment, away from damp or humid areas.
Safe Disposal & Recycling
- Never dispose of lithium batteries in household rubbish or fire.
- Take used, damaged, or end-of-life batteries to an authorised recycling facility or battery drop-off point.
- Tape over exposed terminals before disposal to prevent short-circuiting.
- Contact your local council, recycling centre, or Gilani Engineering for disposal guidance.
Emergency Actions
- If a battery leaks: avoid contact, wear gloves, and wash skin immediately with soap
and water. - If a battery catches fire: use a Class D fire extinguisher (for metal fires) or cover
with sand/soil. Do not use water. - Seek medical help if exposed to leaking battery contents.

Quick Tips Checklist
(Perfect for manuals, labels, or stickers)
- Charge Safely: Use only the supplied charger. Do not charge unattended or overnight.
- Keep Cool: Store between 10тАУ25┬░C. Never leave in hot cars.
- Remove from Vehicle: Always take the battery indoors if leaving mobility devices in a car.
- Stay Dry: Keep away from water and damp areas.
- No DIY Repairs: Do not open, pierce, or modify the battery.
- Recycle Responsibly: Do not throw in the bin. Use a recycling facility.
- Replace on Time: Replace batteries before 450 charge cycles (or every 2тАУ3 years, depending on use).
DO NOT install the battery upside down or in the wrong orientation, as this can cause serious damage, including risk of fire.
