Description
Harmar Powered Scooter Carrier — Tow Bar Mounted Mobility Scooter Lift | Australia
Take your mobility scooter with you — without losing your boot space or lifting a thing.
A powered scooter carrier mounts to the tow bar at the rear of your vehicle and lifts your mobility scooter electrically at the touch of a switch. There is no manual lifting, no ramps to push up, and no dismantling your scooter to fit it in the boot. Your scooter travels safely outside the vehicle, leaving your entire cargo area and passenger seats free.
We supply the Harmar powered scooter carrier range in three capacities — from 68kg to 181kg — covering everything from a small three-wheel scooter on a sedan to a heavy full-size scooter on a 4WD. Every installation includes a vehicle assessment by our engineering team.

Choose Your Model
All three models are fully powered and hold your scooter with an automatic hold-down foot and wheel cradle — no modification to your scooter required. The difference is capacity, scooter size, and the vehicle it suits.
| Model | Capacity | Max wheelbase | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AL015 | 68kg (150 lb) | 91cm (36″) | Smaller three-wheel scooters — lightweight enough for most sedans |
| AL100 | 159kg (350 lb) | 107cm (42″) | Most mobility scooters |
| AL100HD | 181kg (400 lb) | 107cm (42″) | Heavier and larger mobility scooters |

Powered Lifting — No Manual Effort
Unlike a manual carrier or ramp where you push the scooter up yourself, these carriers do the work for you. Drive your scooter onto the platform, and the lift raises it to travel height at the press of a switch. The AL100 and AL100HD also fold under power when empty, keeping a low profile against the back of the vehicle.
- Fully powered lifting — operated by a switch, no lifting required
- Powered folding when empty (AL100 and AL100HD)
- Keeps your boot free — the scooter travels outside the vehicle
- No modification to your scooter — no dismantling, no changes
Automatic Hold-Down Foot Secures Your Scooter
Loading is simple. Drive your scooter onto the platform, and the automatic hold-down foot clamps it in place while the wheel cradle holds it steady. There are no straps to thread, no ratchets to tension, and nothing to guess at.
- Automatic hold-down foot — engages as you load
- Wheel cradle, adjustable to your scooter’s wheelbase
- AL015 adds front and rear cradles for smaller scooters
- Licence plate mount included (AL100 and AL100HD)
A Lighter Option for Sedans
Most powered scooter carriers need a substantial tow bar and a larger vehicle. The AL015 is the exception — a compact, lightweight lift that fits a Class I tow bar and suits most sedans, so you are not forced into a bigger car just to take your scooter with you.
- Lightweight design at just 29kg installed
- Suits a Class I tow bar or greater
- Lower profile means better rear visibility
- Three-wheel cradle standard, four-wheel cradle available as an option
Will It Fit My Vehicle?
These carriers mount to a rear tow bar receiver. The AL015 suits most sedans, while the AL100 and AL100HD suit a wide range of SUVs, utes, 4WDs, vans and people movers.
Every installation begins with a vehicle assessment. Because the carrier holds a load at the rear of your vehicle, we confirm your tow bar type, its rating and your vehicle’s suitability before anything is ordered or fitted — so there are no surprises.
Before installation we check three things together:
- Your vehicle — make, model, year, and tow bar type and rating
- Your scooter — make, model, weight and wheelbase
- Total load — the combined weight of the carrier plus your scooter must be within your tow bar’s rating
Send us your vehicle and scooter details and we will confirm compatibility before you buy.

- Swing-away — swings the folded, unloaded carrier aside so you can open your boot or tailgate without removing the lift
- MultiView backup camera — a two-lens camera mounted on the lift platform, giving you a clear reversing view whether the platform is stowed or loaded (AL100 and AL100HD)
- Four-wheel cradle — extends the AL015 to suit four-wheel scooters
- Scooter cover — protects your scooter from weather and road grime while travelling
- Licence plate riser — keeps your number plate visible when the carrier is fitted
Professional Assessment and Installation
We do not simply ship these carriers and leave you to work it out. Every carrier is assessed and installed by our team, because a lift mounted at the rear of a vehicle needs to be right.
- Vehicle assessment — we check your vehicle, tow bar type and rating, and confirm the carrier suits your setup
- Scooter check — we confirm your scooter’s weight and wheelbase and recommend the right model
- Quote and documentation — including NDIS paperwork if you need it
- Installation — fitted and wired by our team, then tested
- Demonstration — we show you how to load, secure and operate it before you drive away
As an engineering company specialising in vehicle modifications, we understand vehicle integration — not just the product. Contact our team to arrange your assessment.
Australian Warranty and Support
Your warranty and support are with Gilani Engineering here in Australia. If you have a question or an issue, you deal with our team locally rather than chasing an overseas manufacturer.
Every powered scooter carrier we supply is covered by a 12-month warranty. This is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Which Solution Suits You?
There is more than one way to take your scooter with you. The right choice depends on your scooter, your vehicle, and whether you want it inside or outside.
| Solution | Best for | Loading |
|---|---|---|
| Powered scooter carrier (68–181kg) | Mobility scooters — drive on, lift at the press of a switch | Fully powered, outside on the tow bar |

| BT-80 boot hoist (80kg) | Compact and folding scooters | Powered — lifts into the boot |

NDIS, Support at Home & DVA Funding
A powered scooter carrier may be funded through several pathways for eligible Australians:
- NDIS — as a registered NDIS provider, we supply quotes and supporting documentation. Vehicle equipment may be funded where assessed as reasonable and necessary, usually with an OT recommendation.
- Support at Home — for Australians aged 65+ receiving government-funded aged care through My Aged Care, subject to assessed needs.
- DVA — eligible veterans may access equipment through the DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a powered scooter carrier?
A powered scooter carrier mounts to your vehicle’s tow bar and lifts your mobility scooter electrically onto a platform at the rear of the vehicle. Unlike a manual ramp carrier, you do not push or lift the scooter yourself — the lift does the work at the press of a switch.
Which model do I need?
It depends on your scooter’s weight, wheelbase and your vehicle. The AL015 carries up to 68kg and suits smaller three-wheel scooters on most sedans. The AL100 carries up to 159kg and the AL100HD up to 181kg, both taking a wheelbase to 107cm. Send us your scooter details and we will confirm.
Can I use a scooter carrier on a sedan?
Yes — the AL015 is designed for exactly this. At 29kg installed and fitting a Class I tow bar, it suits most sedans, so you do not need a larger vehicle to take a scooter with you. We confirm suitability during your vehicle assessment.
Do I need to modify or dismantle my scooter?
No. These carriers require no modification to your scooter, and no dismantling — you drive it on as it is.
Does it fit my car?
The carrier mounts to a rear tow bar receiver. We assess your vehicle, tow bar type and rating before installation to confirm it suits your setup.
Will it block my reversing camera?
A rear-mounted carrier can obstruct your reversing camera. The optional MultiView camera (AL100 and AL100HD) is a two-lens unit mounted on the lift platform that gives you a clear view whether the platform is stowed or loaded. The AL015’s lower profile also helps with rear visibility.
Can I still open my boot with the carrier fitted?
With the optional swing-away, yes. It lets you swing the folded, unloaded carrier aside to reach your boot or tailgate without removing the lift.
Does it need to be wired to my car battery?
The lift is hard-wired to the vehicle battery as standard. An optional dedicated battery pack is available if you prefer not to wire it to the vehicle.
What warranty do I get?
A 12-month warranty, with support provided by our Australian team — in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Is NDIS funding available?
It may be. As a registered NDIS provider we can supply quotes and documentation to support your application, and can advise on Support at Home and DVA pathways.
